BC Ferries cancels several sailing for maintenance

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Thousands of people could be stuck at the Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay ferry terminals today after BC Ferries had to pull the Spirit of British Columbia from the run.

The move means the 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. sailings from the Lower Mainland and the 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. runs from Vancouver Island have been cancelled.

“I do want to remind customers that Tuesday tends to be our quietest day of the week, and that’s why we’ve chosen Tuesday night to do this,” explains Deb Marshall with BC Ferries.

“We want to minimize the impact to our customers and have this vessel back in service for the long weekend.”

Still, Marshall admits a lot of people will be inconvenienced by the cancellations.

BC Ferries is bringing in the Queen of New Westminster to cover the 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. sailings from Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay respectively.

Marshall says engineers are confident the the Spirit of BC will be ready for action tomorrow morning.
