Canuck Malhotra to walk in Pride Parade

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s another sign attitudes towards homosexuality are changing in hockey.

Vancouver Canuck Manny Malhotra will be walking in this year’s Pride Parade. The popular Canuck will be marching with the group You Can Play, which aims to stamp out homophobia in sports.

Malhotra says athletics is meant to unite people, not alienate them.

“I don’t feel race, religion, creed, age, sexual orientation should be a deciding factor on how you judge somebody and especially in sports,” Malhotra believes.

He says homophobia has no place in the locker room.

“My feeling is it’s the start of something. I would hope in the future that it wouldn’t be an issue. It should never be an issue.”

Malhotra says having pro hockey players walk in the Pride Parade is a big step, not just for hockey but for sports in general.
