VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The leader of the BC NDP says a tour of the route of the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline cements his opposition to the plan.

Adrian Dix says he was well-received on BC’s North Coast.  “I started in Terrace and went to Kitimat and to Kitimat village where I met the Haisla [First Nation] and along Douglas Channel.”

The leader of the official opposition paints a portrait of First Nations communities concerned about the potential for a devastating oil spill and their vibrant local businesses.

He says every community, First Nations and otherwise, is opposed to the pipeline but one.

Dix adds it’s not just a narrow, regional view working against a national energy strategy.

“The coast of BC is part of our national interest too.  The oil companies have an interest too, but surely as much the views of people in Klemtu and Hartley Bay and Bella Bella and Kitimat and Terrace.”

Dix says the NDP is still reviewing its legal options to try to stop the project if it’s approved and he becomes premier next May.
