Heading out of town for BC Day? Expect heavy traffic!

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Make sure the AC is working in your vehicle! You might be spending a lot of time in traffic this hot long weekend.

The only way to beat the crowds is to get away early; even then, some of the first sailings today were leaving full at the BC Ferry terminals.

“It’s going to get really busy for eastbound Highway 1,” says News1130 traffic reporter Sabeen Habib. “A lot of people heading through the Valley will be going to the Interior. Highways 3 and 5 will definitely be busy between Hope and Merritt.”

She notes the Sea to Sky Highway is also expected to be busy.

“There are a lot of campgrounds along the Sea to Sky between Vancouver and Pemberton, so that’s going to be a busy one,” she tells us.

With the Loonie hovering near parity today with the US dollar, expect the border crossings to be even busier than normal.

“Most of the time, it’s between 6am and 7am that you start to see the border rush start for southbound traffic,” says Habib.
