VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – We all know the roads will be extra busy today with everyone making their way home.

There are an average of 1900 collisions on the BC Day Long Weekend.

ICBC says those crashes result in over 500 injuries and five fatalities every year. Over 60 per cent of those happen in the Lower Mainland.

“That’s where we have the majority of our shops and certainly in the month of August is when we see a fairly steady inflow resulting from accidents occurring on the long weekend,’  says John Kirschbaum of Kirmac Collision.

He adds that the summer long weekends are some of their busiest times of the year.

“The May, July, August and September long weekends are by far the largest weekends for traffic volumes,” he says

Kirschbaum warns that the majority of the collisions he sees in his shops are from incidents that happen at low speeds.
