New corkage fees a good thing for small wineries

By

PENTICTON (NEWS1130) – Some visitors to the Okanagan may be finding a new reason to go on those wine tours, with some paying extra attention to ‘tasting’ thanks to BC’s new corkage rules.

Gavin Miller with Upper Bench Estate in Penticton says it’s early but there’s a great deal of potential when people start bringing bottles to restaurants from small wineries like his.

“As an advertisement, you’ve now taken my wine out there”

Dean (Dino) Douglas with the wine tour company GrapeEscapes says he’s heard some questions about the new rules but says it’s still early…

“I think it’s still early and people are kind of waiting to see what it will mean depending on their favourite restaurant and what’s their favourite wine.”

He says wineries seem excited about having their bottles turn up in more restaurants.
