TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – Thornhill, Ontario’s Milos Raonic advanced to the third round of the Rogers Cup with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Viktor Troicki of Serbia. Raonic was playing his first match of the event after earning a first-round bye.

The hard-serving 21-year-old fired seven aces in the match, which took just over an hour to play.

Raonic took the first set after breaking Troicki’s serve to go up 5-3 and then holding his own serve to close it out.

After both players held serve in the first two games of the second set, Raonic once again earned a break in the third game. He held serve the rest of the way to earn the victory.

Raonic is currently the 24th ranked player in the world. He is the highest ranked Canadian male.

Fellow Canadians Frank Dancevic of Niagra Falls, Ont. and Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil were eliminated. Dancevic fell 6-3, 7-5 to Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in his first-round match. Pospisil was eliminated with a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Juan Monaco of Argentina in the second round.
