No murder charges yet in Burnaby stabbing

Update August 15, 2012: The VPD has identified the victim as 57-year-old Ronald William March.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The person of interest in Wednesday night’s stabbing death in Burnaby has been charged for smashing his car into a Vancouver Police cruiser.
    
But Cst. Brian Montague says there are still no murder charges against the 47-year-old man.

“Our detectives will be working for some time, gathering evidence, and once enough evidence is obtained, on whoever the suspect is, charges can for forwarded to crown.”
    
Montague says he will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

“His next court appearance in on August 14, he remains in custody, and he does remain a person of interest in the homicide.”

Investigators aren’t sure what his relationship with the victim is.

The murder happened  near Grandview Highway and Renfrew Street.

A woman who lived in the building said a neighbour heard screaming and called 911. “The police [were in] the hall here with their guns drawn. We knew that something bad must have happened. He just moved in this past week,” she tells us.

She said police told her there’s no risk to public safety, because it was a targeted attack.

The victim was believed to be a man in his fifties.
