VPD aims for transparency by streaming briefings online

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Police Department is now letting you get an inside look at media briefings, outlets like News1130 attend on a daily basis.

The VPD says the goal is to be as transparent as possible.

Constable Brian Montague believes it gives people a chance to see what questions officers face from reporters.

“It’s for anyone who is interested in what’s going on in the Vancouver Police Department and what’s going on in the City of Vancouver and they get the entire press conference rather than just snippets,” Montague notes.

“If someone is interested in what’s going on, we Tweet out every morning if we are live-streaming a press conference.”

As for Twitter, the force has over 25,000 followers. Montague says the feed is there to be transparent, updating people on any on-going incidents.

He says they’ll also do ‘Tweet the Chief’ again where Jim Chu and other members answer all your questions live.
