LONDON, ENGLAND (NEWS1130) – With the end of competition almost here, it is nearly time to bid a fond farewell to London 2012 at the closing ceremonies.
Once the final medals are handed out the closing ceremonies will begin, with a star-studded musical lineup expected to wow the crowds.
The full lineup has been kept a closely guarded secret, but one of the expected acts could be the first live performance in a year for English performer George Michael. Other potential acts include: The Who, The Spice Girls and, if rumours are true, Adele.
By the time things are said and done, more than 4,000 performers are expected to have been involved in the ceremony.
It will all mark the end of the London 2012 Games, which some in Britain are calling the best ever.
“Fantastic, really fantastic, I’ve really enjoyed it, emotional,” said one fan.
“An absolute spectacle, super, we’ve done Britain proud,” said another.
Part of the closing ceremony will include the lowering of the Olympic flag in London, where it will be handed over to the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, the host of the 2016 Olympic Games.
The closing ceremonies begins at 1 p.m. PT.
