VANCOUVER (NEWS1130 ) – The Canadian Taxpayers Federation is slamming BC’s carbon tax, saying that it’s failed to meet its goals.
But a national green economy think tank is claiming the carbon tax has reduced our fuel consumption.
Alexandre Wood with Sustainable Prosperity argues the carbon tax is doing its part to help the environment and the economy.
“The important thing is that fuel use has gone down but the BC economy has continued to grow and so what we’re seeing is essentially an economy that is less and less sensitive to petroleum or to other kinds of fuels,” he explains.
Wood argues BC is becoming more immune to volatile oil markets, which can affect the price of day-to-day goods.
He says the carbon tax is tax neutral because of lowered income tax rates.
