Second death following Okanagan plane crash

PEACHLAND (NEWS1130) – A second person involved in a small plane crash near Peachland has now died from her injuries.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Lauren Patricia Sewell of Surrey. She was a passenger on the plane.

Sewell’s parents are turning their grief into a gift of life for about six other people. Barb McLintock with the BC Coroners Service says the Surrey woman became an organ donor after it was determined that her injuries were not survivable.

“We did want to… give a ton of credit to her family for the generousity so that other individuals and families did get some hope from this death,” says McLintock.

The plane went down on Monday. Jayson Dallas Wesley Smith, 30, of Vancouver was also killed in the crash. Sewell is believed to have been Smith’s girlfriend.

Two others who were on the flight remain in hospital with serious injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board is still trying to determine what went wrong.
