It’s all about the cheese in Whistler

By

WHISTLER (NEWS1130) – Do you want to tumble down the side of a mountain for an 11 pound wheel of cheese? That’s what people are doing in Whistler this weekend for the annual Cheese Rolling Festival.

Sandra Da Silva with Dairy Farmers of Canada says people tend to dress up for the event and can be quite creative.

“We’ve had cows come out, we’ve had a duck come out. People come dressed in their bathing suits and we’ve had gentlemen dressed in rubber tubes that go around [their waist] while they’re in a swimming pool,” Da Silva explains.

She says the family event offers up only Canadian made cheese, something she wants you to look for when you go grocery shopping.

“Look for the little blue symbol that says 100 per cent Canadian milk on the cheese product. When they purchase it, they’ll know it’s good quality, it’s made here in Canada and that they’re supporting their economy and supporting their farmer.”

Both men and women can take part in the event. You can register when you get to Blackcomb Mountain.

The winner gets to keep the cheese.
