ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Two people are in hospital after being airlifted from a serious crash on Highway 1.

Emergency crews were called to Highway 1 westbound near Perdonville Rd. this afternoon after a flat deck truck lost control and crashed into a car.

The driver of the truck was trapped in the wreckage and crews worked for some time to get him out. They used the jaws of life, spreader and cutters to get through the mangled vehicle.

He was eventually airlifted to hospital.

The other driver was also airlifted to hospital by a separate air ambulance.

A large amount of diesel was spilled across the highway as a result of the crash.

No word on the conditions of the victims.
