VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Here’s another reason to keep an eye on what your kids are doing online.
There’s a website that can figure out where you live based on what you put on Twitter.
The site WeKnowYourHouse.com scans Twitter for people who make references to being at home. It uses their data to figure out where they live.
UBC Computer Science Professor Emeritus Richard Rosenberg says it’s another example of how much of your personal information can end up on the Internet.
“I think the whole process is a little creepy and I have a very personal example because I have three grown-up kids and I used to babble every day in my house about my privacy concerns,” Rosenberg says.
“The idea here is life is so complicated and there are so many people that you’re involved with, that if you can send out something on one course, everybody will get it and they will all know what everybody is doing.”
WeKnowYourHouse.com calls itself a social networking experiment and it says all data is deleted to protect people’s privacy.
It’s based in the United Kingdom.
