Canadian rockers Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger get engaged

TORONTO (NEWS1130) – In what was somewhat of a surprise to many in the entertainment industry, Canadian rockers Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger have gotten engaged.
Kroeger, the 37-year-old frontman of Nickelback, and Lavigne, Canada’s 27-year-old pop-punk princess, first got together in February to co-write a song for Lavigne’s next album. A friend of Lavigne tells People Magazine that was when a romantic relationship blossomed.
This will be the second marriage for Lavigne, who separated from Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 in 2009.
Kroeger has never been married, although he is currently embroiled in divorce proceedings with his former common-law partner Marianna Goriuk.

The engagement announcement has sparked a huge conversation online, with most comments being negative.

One user tweeted: “You know those days when you’re just a little bit embarrassed to be Canadian? Like say today?”
Another wrote: “A positive thought: They have a child. It rebels. And becomes an actual musician.”
Perhaps one the funniest tweet was from singer Adam Levine of Maroon 5: “Just to clear up the confusion, I am NOT engaged to Chad Kroeger of Nickleback.”
