VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – If you wanted to, you could have bought the motorcycle that was traveling 299kph on Vancouver Island for less than $5,000.
A video of the bike weaving through traffic while the speedometer hovered around 300kph was posted on YouTube and has now been seen by more than 1.5 million people.
Saanich police seized the bike earlier this year and the BC government put it up for auction.
It sold last week to someone using the handle 4x4albert for $4,651.76.
The buyer might have a little trouble getting the 2006 Yamaha R1 started, though.
The BC Auction website says it’s missing an important piece.
“Please note that there is no ignition chip key included with this motorcycle so the bike will not start and the onboard computer will not work without this key,” the website says.
Randy Scott, 25, has been charged with dangerous driving. Scott turned himself in to police in Kelowna last month.
He will be appearing in provincial court in Victoria in October.
