Technology bringing parents and children closer together

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Technology is the preferred way for parents and kids to stay in touch, according to a new Angus Reid Forum survey done for the latest Rogers Innovation Report.

“In fact, 30 per cent of parents indicate that technology plays a role in making them closer to their kids than they were with their parents,” explains Rob Switzer, Senior Director of Emerging Business for Rogers.

“The most popular smartphone activity [for both] parents and youth is texting. On computers, it’s email. Fifty per cent of youth indicate that they’re friends with their parents on Facebook,” he adds.

Part of the reason parents and kids are connecting through technology is because one isn’t as savvy as the other in using today’s gadgets. Forty-three per cent admit they still turn to their children for help on how to get the most from their devices.

Rogers is the parent company of News1130.
