VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A man from Vancouver is facing an animal cruelty charge after a horrific attack on a kitten was caught on video.

Investigators were called in after a woman bought a used cellphone in April and on the phone was the horrific 50-minute video.

Jordan Lucas is accused of violently abusing and torturing the animal and recording it on the phone.

The BC SPCA‘s Marcie Moriarty says the footage only showed a man’s hands with a distinctive tattoo and that’s what they used to track him down.

“The kitten was thrown, punched, strangled, spun it around.  We were able to trace back that distinctive tattoo and that’s how Jordan Lucas was identified.”

Lucas, is in his late 20s and known to police.  He’s in custody and investigators will be speaking to him to find out what happened to the kitten and whether it died.

“[A kitten’s] bones are so fragile, so teeny.  And the fact that somebody could wrap cords around the neck, asphyxiate, just describing it makes me sick,” adds Moriarty.

“At several points during the video the kitten groaned and cried and appeared to be injured and disoriented,” says Lorie Chortyk, also with the SPCA.

Lucas was arrested in Richmond yesterday, and if convicted, he faces up to five years in jail, a fine of up to $10,000, and up to a lifetime prohibition of owning or having custody of animals.

The SPCA is trying to determine if the kitten in the video is still alive.
