VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Liberals are accusing an NDP MLA of being “communist-infatuated.”
In an interview, Surrey-Fleetwood MLA Jagrup Brar says he enjoyed a holiday to Cuba and admired things like the minimal gap between the rich and the poor.
Liberal MLA Bill Bennett says it’s an interesting interview. “And I think frankly revealed what may well be a central NDP philosophy — which is that they like to redistribute wealth instead of having people compete for it.”
Vancouver-Hastings New Democrat Shane Simpson thinks the Liberal government needs to get its priorities straight.
“The reality is that there are real pressing issues in British Columbia and they are issues that they would be much better placed to be paying attention to and having a conversation with British Columbians about than worry about where Jagrup has his holiday,” believes Simpson.
He adds the government should spend more time outlining its vision for the province.
“Instead we’re hearing these bizarre attacks on NDP MLAs for things that really have nothing to do with British Columbia.”
The Liberal press release goes on to say, “while Cubans risk their lives in tiny fishing boats across shark-infested waters to escape one of the world’s last communist regimes, the BC NDP seems to suggest BC ought to copy Cuba’s approach.”
