Republicans open national convention, delay it until Tuesday over Isaac fears

By

The Republican National Convention officially got underway Monday, however within minutes it was adjourned until Tuesday over fears related to Tropical Storm Isaac.

The convention, which will be used to officially nominate Mitt Romney as the challenger to President Barack Obama, aims to re-unite the Republican party.

The convention will feature high-profile speeches by Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan. The Republicans will try to portray Romney as a determined leader and family man, compared to the Democrats who paint him as a ruthless businessman.

Isaac is threatening to come ashore as a hurricane along the U.S. Gulf Coast, perhaps striking close to New Orleans, almost seven years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the city.

Some of the latest polls put Obama slightly over Romney as far as popularity in the race for the presidency.
