ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A Fraser Valley women’s resource has been given a two month reprieve thanks to some generous community support.
Abbotsford’s Warm Zone was in danger of closing after the three years of federal pilot project money ran out.
Society director Dorothy Henneveld says keeping the centre open is a big priority.
“The Warm Zone does excellent work and it works with some of the most vulnerable women that we have in Abbotsford and it meets a need in the community that really isn’t met by service provider,” she says.
She adds they’re talking to all levels of government to find a long-term funding source, and have applied for gaming grants.
“None of those things alone will be enough, but all of them in partnership will be enough, particularly heartening to have just individuals and businesses in the community stepping up and giving us donations,” she explains.
The Abbotsford drop-in centre provides services for women who are homeless, suffering from addiction, or otherwise in a tough situation.
