LANGLEY (NEWS1130) – Do ever you get the feeling that the real meaning of Labour Day has been lost? A great way to explore and further understand BC’s tough, industrial past is at the BC Farm Machinery and Agricultural Museum in Fort Langley.
Museum president Syd Pickerell says their annual Old and New Day event will showcase vintage tractors from 100 to 150 years ago next to their current versions.
“[We'll have on display] tractors going back to the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s. Some that people would recognize as the year their dad had, their grandpa had or their neighbour had,” explains Pickerell.
He notes there will be some smaller items on display as well.
“[An] old wall telephone out beside a smartphone. We’ve got books in our library going back to the late 1700′s and we’ll have one of those open [with an] e-Reader open beside it.”
Pickerell says you’ll be interested to see just how people lived and what they did for entertainment.
“Some things have changed a lot, some things have not changed very much,” he believes. “We have all these items on hand at the museum and we thought it would be a neat way to show kids just how things have changed.”
The BC Farm Machinery and Agriculture Museum has the province’s largest pioneer collection.
