(VANCOUVER) NEWS1130 – Two assault charges have been laid against UBC Hornets Coach Martin Tremblay. He’s accused of tripping two players after a game June 23rd.

The incident was caught on video and has been seen around the world. Neil MacKenzie with the Crown says the video played a significant part of the investigation.

“I think in this case, everyone is well aware of the fact that there’s video that allegedly shows what took place.”

MacKenzie adds it’s unusual to come across something like this, “I think it’s fair to say it’s an uncommon occurrence. I can’t necessarily say it’s the only time something like this has occurred but it’s unusual for us to be approving charges in circumstances that are alleged here.”

Tremblay can be seen on video sticking out his foot while players shake hands. Two players with the Richmond Steel are seen tumbling over each other. One of the players, a 13-year-old, ended up with a broken wrist.

Tremblay is scheduled to make an appearance in Richmond Provincial Court September 13th.
