VANCOUVER (NEWS1130)  – What does a change of power in the Quebec National Assembly mean for the rest of Canada?

Now that the Parti Quebecois is taking over power in Quebec, one expert talks about what it means if the separatist party wins.

SFU political science professor Remi Leger says you’ll see more of a focus on Quebec sovereignty from the PQ and it will definitely get more people across the country talking about nationalism.

“What we will see is a return of identity politics, the infamous Quebec question, we’ll see a return  of national unity, these are types of discussion we haven’t had in ten or so years,” he says.

He adds that a referendum isn’t likely.

The issue of language will be in the forefront, as Leger says the number of services provided in French outside of Quebec could be reviewed.
