MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS1130) – Many commuters are still upset about having to pay a toll for the Golden Ears, even though there were closures on the bridge during this morning’s commute.

But so far we are not hearing of any other ways to better communicate when tolls are expanded to include the Port Mann.

Transportation Critic Harry Bains feels something needs to be done.

He says at the very least it wouldn’t be too difficult to give people the heads up if there is a closure or delay through an electronic message board.

“We have those road hazard signs all over this place in this province and i think it shouldn’t be a problem. The Government needs to pay attention to the needs of the motorist because they are the ones actually paying for the service through the tolls and they are not getting the service for the tolls they are paying.”

They should be strategically placed so people have advanced warning to choose an alternate route.

“[Right now] there is no real program or plan to warn people.”

TransLink meantime says it does not and will not have a “good-will” policy or a refund of any kind when problems arise, and it says sometimes people have to just prepare for issues like that.
