RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – The son of a Chinese woman who vanished while visiting Richmond in June has now been charged with murdering her and may have planned to try to kill his father.

Sergeant Jennifer Pound with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the body of Lianjie Guo was found in a suitcase on a beach on the Sunshine Coast in late July.

“I can tell you today that IHIT is announcing a charge of first-degree murder, along with a charge of counseling to commit an indictable offence against 25-year-old Yuan Xi Tang who is the son of the victim.”

Tang and his father made a public plea to help find Guo earlier this summer and Pound says he was arrested Friday afternoon.

“It was in the Richmond area that the suitcase was dropped, and that suitcase ultimately ended up on Harwood Island,” says Pound.

Tang, who had moved to Richmond in 2006, became a suspect as the investigation progressed.

The cause of death has not been released.
