VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Just because school is back in session doesn’t mean there is less to do in the Lower Mainland.

Come out to one of the last festivals of summer on Saturday.  This is the first year of the expanded West End Fest — formerly known as Davie Day.  Davie will be closed from Burrard Street to Denman Street with live performances, a dodgeball tourney, a roller disco and lots of fun for the whole family.  

You can also check out the Uptown Street Festival Saturday at Central Plaza on North Bluff Road in White Rock.  There will be a dog competition, decorated bike competition, an art walk, and chili cookoff.

It’s time once again for the Luxury Supercar Weekend on the Great Lawn at VanDusen Gardens.  Along with the Mercedes, Bentleys and Aston Martins, there will be an Italian food pavilion, the Sutton Place Hotel’s world-famous chocolate buffet, wine and a yacht display.

The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival is on until the 9th.

Celebrate the 28th year of the Vancouver International Fringe Festival in and around Granville Island until the 16th.

The Four Seasons is putting on a 10-course gala dinner Saturday night to mark Julia Child‘s 100th Birthday.

Bring your dog out to the Paws for a Cause Walk on Sunday at Lumberman’s Arch.  The walk raises money for the BC SPCA to help care for abused pets or ones that have been given up by their owners. Call 604-709-4651 for more information.

Learn all about seafood and what fish choices are best for you and the environment at the Best Catch Sustainable Seafood Festival on Sunday at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery in Steveston.  There will be fresh seafood for sale, cooking demonstrations, live music, games and stuff for the kids.

The Parkinson’s Superwalk is on Sunday at Ceperly Park.  The annual 10, 7 and 2 km runs raise money for the Parkinson Society British Columbia.

Vancouver ComicCon is on Sunday at Heritage Hall on Main Street in Vancouver.
