VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions had their four-game win streak snapped last week in Montreal but they’ll get another shot at the East’s best team this afternoon as they host the Alouettes in a rematch at BC Place.
The two teams met last Friday in a game that Montreal took by a 30-25 score. The result gave the Alouettes and Lions identical 6-3 records, good for first place in the CFL standings.
The Lions, like most teams, had trouble containing Montreal quarterback Anthony Calvillo. The 40-year-old threw for 321 yards, his eighth straight game passing for over 300 yards. The streak is the longest of its kind in CFL history.
Lions’ defensive end Keron Williams thinks the loss in Montreal may have been a good thing for the club moving forward.
“We got on a little run and then we faced Montreal, which is very savvy. It gave us more things to work on. It definitely humbled us and steered us in the right direction. We don’t take anything for granted and our team is very poised that way.”
The Lions are hoping slotback Geroy Simon will be in the lineup. Simon injured his hamstring early in last week’s game and was limited in practice throughout the week. Head coach Mike Benevides is expecting to make the final decision after talking to Simon closer to game time.
Montreal brings a four-game win streak into today’s match-up.
With sunny skies expected all day, the roof at BC Place will be open. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.
