A number of high-profile stars descended upon the city Saturday, as Day 3 of the Toronto International Film Festival continues.
Among the stars, Robert De Niro, Gwyneth Paltrow, Johnny Depp, Adam Sandler, Emma Watson, Selena Gomez, Elton John and Halle Berry were all expected to make appearances.
Depp and producer Peter Jackson held a press conference and walked the red carpet for their new film ‘West of Memphis’. The documentary follows three young men who were convicted of brutally murdering three Cub Scouts in 1993 and served 18-years in prison.
Depp has long supported a retrial for Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley. Echols was sentenced to die while Baldwin and Misskelley received life terms.
The men were freed last year.
Also Saturday was a Holt Renfrew party hosted by Elton John and his husband David Furnish.
The stars of animated kid-flick ‘Hotel Transylvania’, including Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez, hosted a press conference and walked the red carpet prior to the film’s TIFF Kids screening.
Actor Viggo Mortenson and director Ana Piterbarg attended the international premier of Everybody Has a Plan, about a man who assumes the identity of his dead twin.
Meanwhile, directors Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski along with Tom Tykwer hosted the world premiere of the highly-anticipated Cloud Atlas. The movie, based on the novel by David Mitchell, follows the same actors in multiple storylines over many time periods.
Stars Halle Berry, Tom Hanks, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Grant were all expected at the Princess of Wales’ screening.
The ‘Perks of Being a Wallflower’ casts Harry Potter star Emma Watson in a new light. She plays a high-school senior who takes a young freshman boy under her wing. Watson, Nina Dobrev, Paul Rudd, Dylan McDermott, Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller and Melanie Lynskey will all walk the red carpet at the Ryerson Theatre.
The gala world premiere of Silver Linings Playbook brought stars Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Chris Tucker, Jacki Weaver and Julia Stiles to Roy Thomson Hall. The film, directed by David O. Russell, follows a man (Cooper) who moves back in with his parents after a stint in a mental institution.
Stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Mark Ruffalo and Tim Robbins were on hand for the world premiere of ‘Thanks for Sharing’. The film follows a group of people as they battle sex addiction.
The North American premiere of The Reluctant Fundamentalist brought stars Liev Schreiber, Kiefer Sutherland, Kate Hudson and Riz Ahmed to Roy Thomson Hall; while at the Princess of Wales, actors Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena, Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez, American Ferrera and writer/director David Ayer attended the world premiere of ‘End of Watch’.
The last world premiere of the evening was ‘Yellow,’ directed by Nick Cassavetes and starring Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffiths, Gena Rowlands and Ray Liotta.

The 37th annual film festival runs until Sept. 16.
