VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver’s tallest building now holds another title. The Shangri-La is Vancouver’s most luxurious hotel according to AAA.

Only 0.3 per cent of hotels around the world are considered worthy of the Five Diamond Award.

General Manager Vito Romeo says it’s humbling because there are only 126 hotels in North America who have been given the distinction.

“Three years now that the hotel has been open and we’re trying to delight our customer everyday from our hearts. We’re very happy to get this recognition,” exclaims Romeo.

He says every time someone stays at the Shangri-La, staff try to make sure they feel at home.

“It’s like a family member. Like when you receive somebody at your home, you make them feel comfortable and make them feel like you’re going to spend a good time in the simplest way, but with the highest service.”

Rates for a night’s stay at the ritzy hotel start at $450.

This isn’t the only local accommodation to get the award. In 2007, the Four Seasons Resort in Whistler nabbed the same honour.
