PEACHLAND (NEWS1130) – Now that most of the Peachland fire evacuees have been allowed to return home, the next step is to reunite them with their animals.

So what kinds of animals did the Canadian Disaster Animal Response Team in the Okanagan have to attend to?

Mostly cats and dogs, but a variety of other critters too.

“Anything from horses, chickens, bunnies, other types of livestock and parrots,” says Petra Leinemann with C-DART.

She adds some of the care included feeding, grooming and providing medical attention to the animal, and the volunteers were fully qualified to help.

“For the most part, most people are reunited with their animals,” says Leinemann.
