VICTORIA (NEWS1130) – The provinces Finance Minister Mike de Jong is strongly suggesting there will be no fall sitting of the Legislature.
One political scientist says the Christy Clark government will likely hear a lot of opposition because of this.
Dennis Pilon with York University says it would mean the liberals would be able to avoid Question Period, and awkward questions from the opposition and media.
“Every day there is a question period, that is a chance for the opposition to wrong-foot the government and ask them questions that they don’t want to answer. Her and her advisers can control the agenda more effectively.”
He says Gordon Campbell did cancel a number of fall sittings so it wouldn’t be too surprising, and he says some have argued fall sittings are not a mandatory part of our political process.
