VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – They want you to keep your boats and jet skis away from Wreck Beach.
People with the Wreck Beach Preservation Society use the beach and say the boaters are making their lives miserable.
The Society’s Judy Williams says people ripping around on jet skis are a safety concern, plus they’re taking an environmental toll the area. She wants by-law officers to crackdown on them.
“I have one friend who presented to the GVRD. She, at the end of the day, is so sick from the fumes that she has to go home and take pain medication.”
Williams says when there are 40 boats around the beach, it’s too hard for the hovercraft to respond to medical emergencies. Then, there’s the noise.
“I literally was sitting at the end of a log, and the gentleman down the log from me was playing a guitar, because I could see his fingers and lips moving…you couldn’t hear him. The sound is deafening.”
Williams and her group also don’t appreciate the people who bring their boats by the beach so they can mock the nudists there.
The Metro Vancouver Parks Board is considering their presentation and will bring it up again at a later date.
