TORONTO, ON (NEWS1130) – As of 11:59 p.m. ET/8:59 p.m. PT, the NHL will officially lock out players, guaranteeing a delay to the start of the upcoming hockey season, and potentially washing away another year of Canada’s sport.

“There really is no news to report,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman after the latest meeting, repeating a phrase he said after nearly every negotiation session.

Despite continually sitting down together, the NHLPA and the league appear to be miles apart.

Revenue sharing, front-loaded contracts, and the salary cap have been the major issues keeping the two sides apart.

The players want a bigger piece of the proverbial pie, while the league doesn’t want to give up any more. The league meanwhile, wants shorter contracts with the players wanting more money.

As of 11:59 p.m. ET, the players will officially be locked out, marking the fourth hockey work-stoppage since 1992.
