VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canadian music royalty and the former leader of the free world will be in Stanley Park today for Sarah McLachlan’s Voices in the Park concert.

Bryan Adams, Jann Arden and former US President Bill Clinton are taking part in the show to support The Sarah McLachlan School of Music.

The Grammy-winning musician says the idea behind the show and the school is simple.

“[It's about] trying to give children the opportunity to have music in their lives, for all the amazing gifts that it has to give,” explains McLachlan. “There have also been many studies that show kids who take music lessons do better in math, do better in science.”

As for Clinton showing up, she explains how the former president got involved.

“We’re happy acquaintances. I’ve done an number of events for him over the years and I did an event with him a couple of months ago and I was explaining about the school to him. He asked me a bunch of questions about it and I said it would be great if he could come. He said, ‘Well, I could probably be there.’”

Stevie Nicks and Hedley will also be at the event.

Over 350 at-risk students are enrolled for the fall, but McLachlan is hoping to push that number even higher by raising over a million dollars tonight.
