VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Say good-bye to what many dubbed the “Giant Toilet” in downtown Vancouver.

Some details have been revealed into the new re-design plans of the Sears building as it gets set to turn into a Nordstrom.

Civic historian John Atkin says the white marble wasn’t terribly popular with the public, so anything at this point is an improvement.

“It has actually been quite hated right from day one,” he says. “There has never been a fan of the building. I think a lot of people are hoping the white concrete will be chipped away and we get some glass and transparency.”

And, that’s exactly what’s happening. The building is set to be re-clad in glass to provide natural light for shoppers.

“I think that will be the best thing ever,” Atkin says. “As Vancouver has been nick-named “The City of Glass” sometimes you just can’t go wrong with it as it just makes the building look better. They can’t go wrong with anything they do to it. It will just make the building look better.”

Nordstrom will take over 230,000 square feet on three floors, including the street level.

Other highlights include two atriums and a landscaped roof-top.
