VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – An NHL lockout is not bad news for everyone. The Vancouver Giants hope many of you will start cheering them on.

With NHL players spending more time on the golf course, it’s admittedly great businesses for junior hockey. As Canucks fans wonder where to turn next, Giants President Ron Toigo just happens to be offering discounted tickets for the first three home games.

The cost will be $15 for red zone seats.

“There’s no question from that business perspective it’s a positive,” he says. “It’ll affect our attendance in a positive way but I’d say the biggest effect is on the calibre of play with our league. The number of players that would be moving on to the NHL that end up staying at this level raise the calibre of our game.”

Toigo points out it’s a cheaper alternative that can be more exciting.

“For those three games we reduced the price of the admission to have everybody come and take another look at the Giants,” he adds. “It may be that they’ve lapsed over the last years but come and see what we’re all about — the quality of play, the calibre of play, and some of the great stars of the future.”

During the last NHL lockout, fans were slow to make the switch but Toigo says by the end, about 1,000 more people became seasons tickets holders with the Giants.

The Giants’ season home opener is this Friday against the Victoria Royals.
