SURREY (NEWS1130) – The people behind the Port Mann Highway One Improvement Project are saying sorry for your frustrating drive to work.

Crews were two hours late picking up construction cones this morning, leaving the bridge down to a single lane of traffic westbound and the westbound Cape Horn Interchange closed.

“There are very clear processes and rules that are in place that are supposed to be followed. It’s the job of the contractor to make sure that those rules are followed and the Transportation Investment Corporation will be following up to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen again,” explains Max Logan with the project.

He says there may be consequences for the contractor.

“We’re still looking into the situation to determine what exactly took place and that will take place before we make a determination regarding any penalties, but penalties certainly are a possibility in this case.”

The contractor could face fines for failing to pick up the cones as part of its deal with the provincial government.
