VANCOUVER(NEWS1130) – ICBC claim centres will be behind picket lines today as workers stage another one-day walkout.
Adam Grossman with the insurance corporation says it’s a good day to avoid the claim centres and reschedule any non-essential appointments.
“It’d be far from the ideal customer service experience, you may have to cross a picket line. There will be probably be longer wait times than we typically have because we’ll have less staff serving customers,” he says.
Grossman says claim centres will be just focusing on those appointments where people really need service.
“For example, their car has been written off in a total loss, their vehicle has been stolen or do they have an essential bodily injury treatment that they need?” he adds.
It’s the second job action for these workers this month. ICBC workers joined thousands of members of the BC Government Employees Union September 5th for another walkout.
“Hopefully the government will be paying attention this time,” says COPE 378 president David Black. “We’ve been without a collective agreement with ICBC for two years.”
More talks between ICBC and its union are scheduled for September 20th and 21st.
