COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – This could be one of the worst weekends yet for drivers dealing with construction headaches caused by the Port Mann/Highway 1 Improvement Project.
Max Logan with the project explains they will be putting up a new overpass, which means lane closures through Cape Horn.
“That’s going to mean reducing the highway down to one lane [in each direction] overnight on Saturday night into Sunday morning. Drivers should avoid this area of the highway at the north end of the Port Mann Bridge if they can,” describes Logan.
“This is one of the number of significant traffic pattern changes that we have going on this month,” he adds.
The folks with the project are warning of massive backups and delays on Highway 1 through the Cape Horn area. Lougheed Highway traffic will also be bad, with a temporary closure of access to Highway 1 eastbound.
As bad as it will be this weekend, think of it as a test run for next weekend, when these closures will last even longer, starting Friday evening and going through to Sunday morning.
“For those two weekends, particularly the last weekend in September, drivers should avoid this area of the highway at the north end of the Port Mann Bridge if they can,” advises Logan.
