COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – This is what you like to hear on a Monday morning. Part of your commute around the new Port Mann Bridge just got easier.
Port Mann Highway One Improvement Project crews worked through the weekend so that the new overpass will free things up on the Cape Horn Interchange.
The overpass allows drivers heading west on the Lougheed Highway to have direct access to Highway 1 eastbound and the new Port Mann Bridge.
The project’s Greg Johnson points out that opening morning for any new project can be tricky.
“We’re instructing drivers to keep an eye out for new signage, the new traffic pattern change and to drive with caution,” he says. “This is going to take drivers directly from the Lougheed Highway onto the Port Mann Bridge. Drivers are going to be able to do this in seconds when it used to take them minutes.”
All the headaches aren’t over just yet. Next weekend, Highway 1 will be down to a single lane in both directions as crews demolish the old Cape Horn overpass.
The News1130 Air Patrol will be up in the air next Saturday and Sunday to help you with your commute. Follow @News1130Traffic for up to the minute updates. Listen for reports every 10 minutes on the ones.
Work on the Cape Horn is the most comprehensive interchange work in BC history, with 15 new ramps in place when it’s all complete.
