VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canadians have some strong opinions when it comes to their prime ministers, and it seems many of you aren’t big fans of Stephen Harper.
A new survey rates him as the worst PM in more than 40 years.
Twenty-six per cent of those asked by Angus Reid Public Opinion say Harper is the worst prime minister since 1968, the year Pierre Trudeau moved into 24 Sussex Drive.
Speaking of Trudeau, 36 per cent of Canadians think he is the best PM of the modern era.
The result comes on the same day a report by Montreal’s “La Presse” newspaper suggests his son Justin will announce a bid to run for Liberal leadership next week. The party chooses its new boss next April.
The elder Trudeau is especially popular in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, and British Columbia; Harper, not surprisingly, is the leading choice among Albertans.
At 17 per cent, the survey names Brian Mulroney the second-worst prime minister since 1968, followed by Trudeau (11 per cent) and Chrétien (9 per cent).

I believe it.
My personal position is Canada was seen as one of the Greatest Country in the world and now changed over night as the worst! The Native Communities even compare Canada Now to South Africa fighting before Mandela came into power! Your P.M. Harper has put your Country at risk on the World Table and is the most Hated Man in the world! Congratulations all Aboriginal and Natives hate this man and the decisions he has pushed against his own people! Yes you guys like your money but in the end who suffers and thats all Canadians! Lift you hat off to your P.M. he really is not the man you think he is! I hope you can put Trudeau in there to fix this mess Harper made!
Canada got through the recession, mostly due to our strong regulations in the banking sector of Canada. If not for those safeguards, we’d likely be in the same boat as the USA. Anyone could’ve spent our children’s inheritance after the fact, to prop up the economy (Action Plan). The Conservatives cannot take credit for “getting us through the recession”.
I live in Berlín Germany and i am a Canadian recently relocated after 10 years in Prague. There is no landfill in this city. All non recyclable garbage is incinerated and the centrifuged with the gas being captured. Our organic waste is further processed to make clean compost and this gas also fuels the plants and public works buildings. Our actual nonrecyclable garbage for two adults and three small pets is about 20 litres per week. We pay a little bit extra for green electricity because we can. This the land of wind turbines, solar and waste being turned into energy. Tarsands and new nuclear are not needed nor welcome. Especially when represented by a failed politician in the pocket of big business. Gordon Campbell is one thing but the rape of Canada and her resources and the ensuing plunder and pillage will be paid for dearly if not deadly in coming years. Shame on Harpe.
Does Harper have a hidden agenda? Is he shady? Yes.
Did he get Canada through the recession relatively unscathed? Also yes.
Is he the worst prime minister ever? Probably not.
I totally agree with this survey. Harper is possible the “worst” I have ever seen. He is a narcissistic one man show who thinks he can bully everyone to do his bidding. My goodness even the Germans pulled out of the tar sands……. he said he would change Canada and he has ………now we dont even rate that well in the world anymore. Disgusting
