VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Canadians have some strong opinions when it comes to their prime ministers, and it seems many of you aren’t big fans of Stephen Harper.

A new survey rates him as the worst PM in more than 40 years.

Twenty-six per cent of those asked by Angus Reid Public Opinion say Harper is the worst prime minister since 1968, the year Pierre Trudeau moved into 24 Sussex Drive.

Speaking of Trudeau, 36 per cent of Canadians think he is the best PM of the modern era.

The result comes on the same day a report by Montreal’s “La Presse” newspaper suggests his son Justin will announce a bid to run for Liberal leadership next week. The party chooses its new boss next April.

The elder Trudeau is especially popular in Atlantic Canada, Ontario, and British Columbia; Harper, not surprisingly, is the leading choice among Albertans.

At 17 per cent, the survey names Brian Mulroney the second-worst prime minister since 1968, followed by Trudeau (11 per cent) and Chrétien (9 per cent).
