VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Apparently nobody around the world remembers last year’s Stanley Cup Riot because according to a Denmark-based company, Reputation Institute, Vancouver is the most reputable city in the world.

About 19,000 people in over a dozen countries were asked about the reputations of 100 cities.  Vancouver beat out Vienna, Austria and Sydney, Australia to nab the top prize.

Our city scored highest in adequate infrastructure of transportation, progressive social, economic and environmental policies and just the overall best place to live and work.

Paul Valley with Tourism Vancouver says the prize will hopefully help boost the number of visitors we get.  “Just over 8 million people come a year from all parts of the world and Canada, and those are the people that come to the city and spend at least one night.”

Some people here may not think we deserve the award because of the riot but he adds people around the world are not reminded of it as often as we are.

“Within a couple of days it was outside of people’s minds outside of Vancouver and people don’t focus on one event or one thing that happened, they think about the overall reputation of the city.”

Last year London won top spot, while Vancouver had placed 14th.
