ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – He said it was sheer instinct to protect his daughter and others around him.
And that man from Abbotsford has been given the first ever community bravery award from Transit Police.
Scott Watson was riding the SkyTrain home with his 9-year-old daughter after a BC Lions game last month, when a man shoved his way on board, screaming homophobic slurs and death threats before spitting and head-butting other passengers.
That was until Watson jumped in.
“Something happened to me and I ran into, and hit the guy and slammed him into the doors. With the momentum of the train he didn’t move. The doors opened and we spilled out onto the platform.”
He held him there until officers arrived.
“I couldn’t stand by, it had to be done, and that why I did it. People don’t have to get involved physically, but let’s help the police out.”
Three others were also honoured today for stepping up to help transit police.
