LOGAN LAKE (NEWS1130) – The Coquihalla Highway has fully reopened after a small forest fire broke out around 3 p.m.  The road was initially shut down both way just north of Merritt, about five kilometres south of the Helmer Exit.  At its peak the smoky blaze was about one hectare in size.

Fire Information Officer Michaela Swan says the highway is only closed temporarily.  “We had to close the Coquihalla Highway just temporarily while we lay fire retardant to slow the spread of that wildfire.”

She suspects the fire was caused by people because there have not been any recent lightning storms in the area.

Drive BC has also issued a wind warning for Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon.  That means the two major routes to Kamloops from the Lower Mainland are seeing delayed travel times.

If that isn’t enough for you, there’s a snow warning for Highway 3 between Hope and Princeton.
