VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You know you should get your kids outside and active, you’ve heard the guidelines, so why isn’t it happening more often?
Nearly two-thirds of Canadian kids free time after school and on weekends is spent being sedentary, but a new initiative is aimed at changing that, teaching parents how to teach their kids to play.
ParticipACTION and the BC Ministry of Health are launching the Bring Back Play campaign today at Elsie Roy Elementary School in Vancouver.
Watch for the Funmobile crew touring schools, neighbourhoods, parks and festivals this fall, helping parents and caregivers find ways to motivate kids to get out and move.
It’s not rocket science, but the hope is that, with a little nudge, parents can teach kids a lot about having fun without so much screen time — doing what kept children in previous generations healthy and happy — from simple games to unstructured, free play.
There is also information for parents and caregivers online and on the Bring Back Play app.
