VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – As you jockey with your fellow drivers on the way to work, here’s a little traffic tidbit for you: a study suggests Vancouver is number two on the continent when it comes to congestion.
The figures come from TomTom in the company’s quarterly congestion index (of course, it bears mentioning the GPS navigation company has a vested interest in telling you how crowded your roads are). They suggest we are only just behind Los Angeles, and on track to overtake them.
On average, TomTom says journey times in Vancouver are 33 per cent longer during peak hours than when traffic in the city is flowing freely. It jumps to 69 per cent longer during the worst part of the evening rush hour.
Los Angeles is the worst for congestion, just barely, at 34 per cent. But the problem is growing at a slower rate than Vancouver.
San Francisco trails us at 29 per cent, followed by Montreal, Toronto, Washington, and Seattle.
