BURNABY (NEWS1130) – A Burnaby Fire Captain is making his way across the southern United States on his bicycle.

We are updating the progress Rudy Pospisil is making towards his goal of raising money to fight cancer by cycling through thirty countries, it’s the Thirty4Three Firefighter Global Cyclist For Charity.

Rudy was diagnosed about ten years ago and his life lessons led him to want to help others facing a similar diagnosis. Cancer free now, he is pushing his body to the extreme every single day while facing temperature ranges of between 10 and 50 Celsius in a matter of days.

“It was so cold I had to wear the socks from my feet on my hands,” Rudy notes. But it does not stop him because Rudy says nothing is as hard as fighting cancer.

Rudy is making his way through Austin, Texas and then down to the Gulf Coast where he is excited about seeing some water after peddling through hundreds of kilometres where there was nothing but desolate countryside — no towns, no people, no cars and Rudy says it was like cycling on the moon.
