RICHMOND (NEWS1130) – Thieves have taken off with more than $200,000 worth of metal from a construction company in Richmond.

RCMP Cpl. Annie Linteau says the steel was taken at three different times from a lot on Van Horne Way and Great Canadian Way between July and September.

“[The material is] usually used to make bridges,” she describes. “Each stolen piece is yellow or blue in colour. They are marked with some spray paint. These would be pieces that are very difficult to conceal.”

“It’s a lot of steel. It’s something that would be difficult to dispose of. Perhaps the material was taken away from Richmond or out of the Lower Mainland,” she adds.

The following markings are on the stolen pieces:

1 item is marked B401
3 items are marked L49 C4101-2101
2 items are marked L49 C2001
14 items are marked D2001
10 items are marked D701
1 item is marked G
2 items are marked E1201

A witness saw three white men loading the metal onto trucks. They may have used a green GMC or Chevrolet pick-up and a white Ford “flat deck” truck.

If you’ve seen the stolen material or anyone has tried to sell it to you, you’re asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
